Deebs house (45k)
The Deebs family residence, near Lahinch in County Clare.

The house where we'd be staying was a good distance away from any large cities or towns.  This area was mostly farmland, and cows could be seen grazing in fields along the roads most everywhere we looked.

Many of the homes in the area were quite old (often more than a hundred years).  At the right, you can see a view of the backyard, with old limestone farm buildings left from years past.  That's even a stone table where the guys are seated.

Inside (31k)Inside (30k)

Inside the home which had once been a farmhouse, our eyes were met with the rustic beauty of a lot of wood and stone.

Turf (37k)

Wherever we traveled, we found that most homes were heated by burning turf.  Turf is harvested from local fields, and looked to be a mix of dried moss, roots, plants, grasses, and dirt.  It burned and heated as well as wood, and gave off a sweet smell much like burning leaves.
