The SPC Project Car 3/24/2001

We also made a trip to the local Dyno shop which is a favorite activitiy whenever a bunch of us get together.  With all the hard work we put into our cars, there's nothing like holding that sheet of paper in your hand to tell you exactly how the car is performing.

At the right you can see Deebs showing Dave V how to run the dyno, since this was his very first time (and I'm sure it won't be his last).

Click HERE for some killer audio of Dave's car on the dyno (218k).

How to dyno (21k)

Tapp (25k)Strapped down (28k)
Tapp's 92 SC taking a turn, and Dave V's 92 SL2 strapped down.

Since Tapp's car was in stock form, we took the opportunity to dyno it with the stock airbox, with a Hotshot Powerstack intake (which added a few horses), and with no intake at all (which actually lost horsepower compared to the stock airbox & the Powerstack intake).

I'd recently purchased a 92 SC for a project car, which will eventually replace my 94 SC2 on the track. (you can see more info in my projects section).   Out of curiousity, I wanted to see how much power the car would make on the dyno.  I wasn't very optimistic, since the car was almost 10 years old and had more than 140,000 miles on it.  (When this car does make its way onto a track, it will NOT be doing so without an engine rebuild, at the very least).

92 SC Video

Indeo 5 codec can be downloaded HERE.

Be sure to turn up your sound.

My 92 SC made approximately 100 hp & 102 ft. lbs. torque in its totally-stock condition.  This was a bit less than many other stock dual-cams I've seen, and with 140,000 miles on the clock, the difference was understandable.

"Why is your dyno horsepower so far below what the car is rated at stock?"

Even though we really didn't plan this weekend in advance, those of us who showed up still had a great time (as always!).
