Thursday (June 15) on the course was considered a 'Driver's School' - a learning event where we were able to push the limits of our cars and improve our driving ability. We were fortunate to have had a few great SCCA race drivers joining us and instructing - James Walker and Mark Rushbrook of Team scR. Even though we weren't really racing against each other, many of us still reached speeds of more than 85 mph on the straights and scrubbed off a lot of rubber in the corners. The day was equally hard on brake pads as well.

The yellow and purple 3-door coupes.
Chris Berube, Jon Heltman, and Chuck Taylor (of the Saturn One Lap of America
team) joined us out on the track with the One Lap yellow SC2 & LW2, and a beautiful
purple SC2 test car (with a few secret go-fast goodies of it's own). The Saturn guys
enjoyed a lot of time out on the track. In fact, the yellow coupe even went through
a set of brake pads before the day was over. The Saturn guys took riders during the day, and everyone who rode in the yellow coupe commented on how great the 'revised' powerplant performed. You can find more details on these cars in my One Lap section.

A crew from the Saturn Media department was also at the track gathering some great footage. They filmed quite a bit of high-speed action, as well as interviews with most of the owners.
|
A Viper team was at the track in preparation for an upcoming weekend race. We invited them to share the track with us for the day (they drove in a different session than we did) - but with one condition: they had to take riders!

James' brother Patrick brought out his Civic si and hauled some serious ass on a brand new set of Hoosier race tires. We gave Patrick a bunch of crap (of course), but at least his race tires were mounted on a set of Saturn alloy wheels. Nice touch Patrick - you're ok with us.
