Flag (1k) Eve of Destruction - 9/29/2001

Following the destruction of the camper was the trailer race.  Each car tows a trailer, often with a lot of extra 'stuff' in it.  The object is to knock the other guys' trailers off their vehicles, and the last car running with the trailer still attached wins.  There were snowmobile trailers (several with snowmobiles in them), tow dollies, and several unique trailers made out of parts of other vehicles.  One guy rolled over and the race was stopped.  Once he was turned back onto his wheels, the race resumed and he continued.  After all, he still had his trailer attached!

Next, two cars were brought onto the track and parked very close together.  Rodney had to run and borrow his wife's Hummer (her daily driver) for this one.  "You better not scratch it!"

I knew that a Hummer had a lot of ground clearance, but I didn't know it had quite this much.  Click the link below to see it climb over two cars.

Jet car (11k)

The final exhibition of the evening was a jet car burn.  (You can even hear it warming up in the background of the video above).  A fire engine frame with a 9000-hp jet engine on the back burned away and melted two cars.  At 150 feet away, I felt the heat on my face and have never heard anything as loud in my life.

Well, that was it.  As the crowd began to leave after 5 hours of destruction, I made may to the track infield.  There was molten metal, tires, trailer parts, bumpers, suspension pieces, and tons of junk everywhere.  It was 1 a.m. in the morning and instead of quickly packing up and heading home, Rodney was busy giving spectators rides on the track in his Viper and what little remained of the rear tires.  It was easy to see that he's a true Saturn fan and not only enjoys doing amazing things with these cars, but giving the crowd one hell of a show.

You can read the track's entire race report for this year's "Eve of Destruction" events at Marshfield Super Speedway HERE.
