The 2002 SPC Rally |
The 2002 Saturn Performance Club Rally The Saturn Performance Club is a group of die-hard Saturn enthusiasts dedicated to taking their cars and driving ability to the next level. The annual club rally begins its journey each summer from Chicago IL and brings many enthusiastic owners with custom and performance-modified Saturns from the U.S. and Canada. You can take a look at my pictures from previous club rallys in my site's Archives section. The 2002 rally was the club's fifth,
and was held from August 3 - August 10, 2002. Members attended from Wisconsin,
Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Connecticut, California, and
Missouri. Arrival |
The Saturn Motorsports transporter was the first
to arrive earlier in the week. Kris and another [unnamed] driver spent a few days on
the road driving it all the way from San Diego CA to Chicago IL. And this is one
impressive truck - 53 feet long, with heat, a/c, a generator, air tools, and room for four
cars on two levels. Hmmm, I wonder what they have inside... |
|
On Saturday (August 3), the remainder of the Saturn Motorsports crew arrived at Midway airport. Instead of driving across the country, Wes, Tyler, and Mike chose to fly instead. One of the first things they did was unload a few cars out of the trailer that they'd be driving for the week.
|
Their black 2002 SC2 had Kosei K1 wheels, an integrated rear wing, Progress coil-over suspension, a very good looking carbon fiber hood, and a lot of other nice upgrades too. |
|
The rest of the
crowd started rolling into town on Saturday (August 3) also. With all the cool
activities scheduled, we couldn't wait for the week's events to get underway. We
headed out to dinner at a local restaraunt for some great food and conversation before
diving head first into the car-guy and car-gal activities. Slot Car Racing |
|
This wasn't the first time we've been to Dynamic Slot Cars in Countryside IL. It's amazing how much fun you can have with these cars and only pay $8 an hour.
|
These slot cars were fast, and this was real racing. A computer keeps track of lap times as we do our best trying to keep the cars on the track.

Here's Tyler R (CA) and Wes (CA) getting staged for a run down the scale quarter mile. Some of the quarter mile cars can reach actual speeds of 90+ miles an hour. Indoors. Try not to blink as they fly by. For more slot car photos and some cool video, take a look at our 2002 Chicago Auto Show event. |
