Slot Car Racing |
|
After lunch on Saturday, the group headed over to Dynamic Slot Cars in Countryside IL. For about $8 an hour, it was a hell of a lot of fun. These aren't quite the same as the electric cars/tracks we all
played with as kids. These cars were seriously fast and took some skill to pilot
around the track. A computer controlled the start, and kept track of position and
time. |
Entering the turns at wide open throttle would cause the cars to fly off the track on the corners with a lot of force. The sound of the cars crashing & hitting the wall was hilarious, and many needed to make a pit stop for repairs. One of the employees even took a hit to the chest, and Tapp ended up bleeding before the day was over as well. Now that's some serious racing.

There was also
a scale quarter mile, complete with a Christmas tree and timing computer. While our
drag cars (wheelie bars and all) only reached an actual speed of about 30 mph on the
50-foot long track, the record on this dragstrip was more than 90 miles per hour -
indoors! Sticky glue on the track at the big end would help stop the cars after
their run.
