Gingerman Raceway - Lapping Day |
The morning drivers' meeting.
Tuesday (July 3)
was a drivers' school & lapping day at Gingerman
Raceway in South Haven Michigan. Gingerman is an 11-turn 1.88 mile road
course. With lots of grass and no concrete barriers or metal guard rails next to the
track, it was safe and enjoyable for the first-time driver. You can read more
details about Gingerman Raceway HERE. Our day on the course was again considered a 'Driver's School' - a learning event where we were able to push the limits of our cars and improve our driving ability. Lap times during the event are not recorded, and the cars are not actually competing against each other. Instructors for the day were James Walker (ITA Saturn SC2, Team scR), Mark Rushbrook (ITA Saturn SC2, r^3 Racing), Larry Webster (ITA Honda CRX, from Car & Driver Magazine), and Randy Fuance (Porsche 928S4). At the morning drivers' meeting, we went
over the rules of the track, how the day's sessions were going to be run, and what the
various flags meant. |

James Walker's 92 SC, and Mark Rushbrook's 95 SC2 are shown at the left. Despite the fact that they were instructors for the day, their race cars had no passenger seats. You guys might want to take care of that for next time.

Instructor Randy's Porsche, and a Spec Racer
Ford.
James' GMC Yukon tow vehicle looked almost as safe as his race car. I felt that my enjoyment of this hobby was suddenly a little less odd...

Since it was nearly afternoon, Ben P was taking a morning nap (yet again). As a security officer for the event, he was becoming good at sleeping with his eyes partially open. I kid you not, it was scary.
