The 2001 SPC Rally

For this lapping session at Gingerman Raceway, Saturns made up the majority of the cars out on the track (that's what we like to see!).  Other cars that joined us include two Mazda Miatas, ITB Volkswagen Rabbit, ITA Honda CRX, ITB Acura Integra, Chevy Camaro SS, Pontiac Firebird WS6, Spec Racer Ford, Porsche 928S4, Honda Civic SI, Audi TT Turbo w/NOS, Ford Taurus SHO, Ford Mustang Cobra, and a Dodge Neon.

The turbo One Lap SC2 sounded great flying down the front straight.  The Saturn guys had such a great time that they used up an entire set of brake pads before the day was over.  Click the link below for some video.

Radiator swap (24k)

During one of his sessions, Ben J developed a leak in his radiator.  Knowing that Ben drove his 95 SC2 all the way from Texas to be here, Kyle K was kind enough to loan him the radiator out of his SW2 for the remainder of the day.  Wow.

Jeff C drove his brake pads to within a millimeter of their life (literally).  He wasn't the only one though, as brake pads are usually one of the more popular consumables while on the track.

Pads (22k)
Wow, now that takes talent.

Unfortunately, brake pads weren't the only casualty of the day.  When you set foot (or tire) out onto a racetrack or take part in driving events on a regular basis, you realize that there are risks.  Unexpected things can happen and parts can break.   For the most part, lapping days go without incident and the enjoyment and adrenalin are worth the risk.  But sometimes, things do happen.

Mark Rushbrook and James Walker both had wrecked front wheel bearings on their ITA Saturns.  And add Patrick W to that list too, with his Honda Civic SI.  The Dodge Neon guy had some engine mechanical troubles, and the SPC project car motor started making some serious racket and died right in the middle of a killer session.  Ben's radiator began leaking badly, and the Audi TT came off the track with a flat tire.

Eric P, who is no stranger to the track, brought his red SC2 from Detroit MI and was also enjoying a beautiful day out on the road course.

Tom's L200 (19k)

Tom S drove his new dark green 01 L200 all the way from Connecticuit - only to have ignition problems while at Gingerman.

Tom was able to get it to the nearest Saturn retailer less than an hour away for repairs, and returned with a new SL2 rental car.  Way to go Tom!

Speaking of rental cars...
