One Lap of America - 5/4/2002
|
It was great to
meet up with one of our club members from New York, Jamin. This year, he's
co-driving a nitrous-fed Honda. This is Jamin's second One Lap, and he's hoping that
next year is the year that his Saturn will be the vehicle that he drives. You can
see an article that mentioned him in his local newspaper HERE,
and you can visit his website where he has a great writeup of his One Lap experience HERE. |
Competitors are on the road and in the car for more than a week, and many of them really can't fit everything they need inside the car. They will either use removeable roof racks, or some damn nice custom trailers (a Thunderbird can be seen at the right). We even spied a trailer made out of a Viper rear section. |
|
After making the
rounds in the paddock, we noticed that the Saturn team had not yet arrived. The road
course event had already begun and groups of cars were entering and exiting the track. As we looked toward the track gate, we were happy to
finally see the team arrive and headed over for a proper greeting. |
|
Since the team arrived a bit late, they had to work hard to unpack the cars very quickly. In addition to the team's luggage & clothing, they also carried lots of tools and spare parts. It was amazing to see how much stuff came out of these cars.
|
Hmm, what's this we spied in the middle of the bottles of Mobil 1 oil and 104+ octane boost? The L200 had a DVD player that they're sure to use during those long hours spent on the road between tracks. Since it looked like the team was a fan of this movie, I was surprised that I couldn't find any colored washers or diamond plate aluminum on either of the cars.

Several Saturn Media guys were also traveling with the team to shoot video and take photos that will be posted on the Saturn website during the week. You can see Saturn's One Lap event coverage HERE.
