It was time for Saturn Motorsports to unload their famous SL2 dragster which they'd be putting on the dyno. The turbocharged drag car has been featured in several auto magazines in the past, and has dyno'd well into the 400 horsepower range on previous occasions.

This car is impressive, with huge drag slicks, lexan windows, custom interior sheetmetal, and a whole lot less weight than stock. Plus, the big-ass turbo looked great too (stay tuned for photos). While at the dyno (and later the dragstrip), it was evident that the drag car was in need of some tuning and troubleshooting. In fact, the Saturn Motorsports guys would spend a lot of time wrenching on it during the week ahead.

Here's one of the drag car's dyno runs where it blew an intercooler pipe (watch the lower right area of the engine compartment). Click the link below for some video. Be sure to turn up your sound. .AVI (requires Indeo codec) - 282k Indeo 5 codec can be downloaded HERE.

For those of you who took a look at my writeup for last year's (2001) Rally and remember Ben from NE oddly sleeping all the time... Ben couldn't make it this year, so Mike (WI) volunteered to take over some of his responsibilities.

After a long hot day at the dyno on Sunday (August 4), we left Morris IL for Gingerman Raceway in South Haven, MI. Of course, a whole bunch of Saturns on the highway with FRS radios is going to have a fun drive. Click the link below for some damn funny video of Dirk (IL) & Jarod (IL) behind the Saturn Motorsports rig. .AVI (requires Indeo codec) - 176k Indeo 5 codec can be downloaded HERE. |
