Gingerman
Raceway - Tech Day |
|
The group was up early on Monday (August 5) for our tech day at Gingerman Raceway. Gingerman is an 11-turn 1.88 mile road course. With lots of grass and no concrete barriers or metal guard rails next to the track, it is safe and enjoyable for the first-time driver. You can read more about Gingerman Raceway HERE.

Drivers met and
were given the schedule for the day, and participants' cars began lining up for their tech
inspection. All the cars that will be driven on the track are put on jackstands and
given a thorough once-over by Tapp (the club's resident mechanic) to make sure they're
safe and in perfect working condition.

Jeff P and his dad Steve drove all the way from Connecticut in Jeff's brand-new 2002 Subaru WRX. All-wheel drive and turbocharged, Kumho race rubber and Carbotech Panther XP pads made it a hell of a lot of fun on the track.

The Saturn Motorsports team lent a hand with tech
duties. The inside of their transporter was a favorite hangout during the day, since
they kept its air conditioning running wide-open in the 90-degree heat. This thing
has two levels with storage for four cars, a hydraulic lift door, a computer, a roof
observation platform, air conditioning, heating, lights, generator, air tools,
spring/shock dyno, and a fully-stocked shop. Where can we get one of these? |
CGI Motorsports was running a driving school on the track while we were holding our tech day. A bunch of us piled in Mike L's (WI) Ford Ranger to head to the spectator section on the far side of the track. And next time Mike - please don't do any burnouts with eight people in the back of the truck. :) |
