Gingerman Raceway - Drivers' School

Driver instruction (43k)

A classroom session was held on Monday (August 5) afternoon by Deebs (IL) and Rich N from MSR Racing (IL).  Drivers learned the layout of the track, safety rules, what the flags meant, and who their instructors would be the next day.

Bib-overalls would go great with that hat.

We woke up bright and early on Tuesday (August 6) and left our hotel in South Haven (MI) to head back to the track.  It was only ten minutes away, but we were all very impatient and excited.  Today was our drivers' school and lapping day.

Cars were divided into three groups based on driver experience.  Each group drove for a 20-minute session  and the groups rotated on and off the track throughout the day.  Unlike most of our other events we've had at Gingerman Raceway, almost every car on the track today was a Saturn.  A few others that joined us included Jeff P's Subaru WRX (CT), MSR Racing's Formula Vee (IL), Dave's Ford Taurus SHO (WI), and Mike L's supercharged Ford Ranger (WI).

Here's Matt S (MA) heading down the front straight in his autocrossing '96 SL2.

At the right we see Dirk H (IL) under his twin-cam SL1, trying to find a lost brake resorvoir cap.

No, he's not trying to bench-press the car.  At least I don't think so.

At the left are Jeff P (CT) and Steve P (CT) waiting to get onto the track.  Their big-ass grins aren't visible under those helmets.
