The 2003 SPC Rally

The Dragstrip

Arrival
Arrival at Muisic City Raceway.

We were on the road early Saturday morning (May 24) to Music City Raceway.  Located in Nashville, TN, it's an eigth-mile strip that we had to ourselves for four hours.  Most of the morning was available for test & tune, leading up to our Saturn-only bracket race.  With approximately 20 people participating in this event, we all got an incredible number of runs - the average number per person was between 20 and 30 runs!

While we were at our car show at the plant yesterday, we were joined by Howard in his beautiful silver 2000 LS2.  Howard lives nearby and works as an electrican for Saturn, and this was his first time at the dragstrip.

We think he had an enjoyable time, judging by his squealing tires, insane laughter, and fistful of timeslips.

During test and tune, cars aren't really competing against each other - that was reserved for the bracket which would come later.  At the left, you can see video of Kevin K's twin-cam SC1 and Deebs' L300 roaring down the strip.  They came from St. Louis, MO, and Chicago, IL, respectively.

Arlene and Jeff C were here from Warren, MI.  Here Arlene is changing the tires on Christena S's nitrous-powered '95 SL2 drag car, which Christena had trailered all the way from Miamisburg, OH.

Here's some video from Kevin K's passenger seat.  Dirk is in the far lane with his twin-cam SL1.  It was amazing how evenly matched their cars were.

John M made a few runs, but was experiencing some clutch troubles.  He had just finished some motor work before the trip, and the car still had some other work to be done.

Tapp & Jenny

This year, club co-founder Tapp chose not to drive either his red '92 SC, or the yellow SPC project car.  Instead, he co-drove Jenny's Subaru Forrester.

At the left we see Tapp giving Jenny some pointers for her first time on the dragstrip.
