Not only did Chris Berube give us a cool presentation on the inner-workings of GM High Performance, he also provided one hell of a hands-on demonstration. Chris brought his work vehicle, a brand new Ion Red Line, and put his many years of track experience to use. Rides at speed were available to anyone who asked. This was an extremely rare opportunity, and a serious treat for those who took him up on the offer. In addition to these rides to remember, spectators could also take the car on a test-drive on nearby back-roads. It was another great opportunity for those who'd rather not have to share the test drive with a white-knuckled and nervous car salesman sitting in the passenger seat.

The
road course is what my SC is built for and I couldn't wait to get on the
track. And since I don't have to worry about it getting me home
afterwards, it always receives a serious flogging - much to the enjoyment of
the driver and passenger. Above left you can see Tom W strapping into
the passenger seat for a session. At the right is video of one lap
with Jeff H (Stickman) riding shotgun - click
HERE to view (7 meg). Video
requires DIVX 5 codec to play - info/download HERE. Be sure to turn up your sound. |

Wally H was seriously quick in his turbocharged Miata, which has been featured in magazines (see his website HERE). Wally had video camera mounts on the trunk, driver's lower fender, and in the grille, and his video showed an amazing perspective.

It was a beautiful day with perfect weather in the 70s. There were no serious mechanical failures, and everyone had another safe & enjoyable day on the track. We couldn't ask for a better day. Except for Kevin K & Cherie, maybe. We packed up and headed back to our hotel in
South Haven to get something to eat, and get a good night's sleep before
another day on the track tomorrow. |
