Autobahn Country Club - SCCA Race #1

It was Saturday, July 30, at Autobahn Country Club, and it was race day!

The SPC's #50 SC2 was rolled into the clubhouse garage area and up onto the scales.  The race officals verify that the car meets a minimum weight for its class.

Chris put on his gear which includes Nomex fireproof long underwear, a HANS device, and driver's suit.  It was time for the morning practice and qualifying session.

The car and driver performed well.  After the session was finished, the car was rolled back under the canopy in the paddock for a close inspection.

An oil leak was spotted and the valve cover gasket was to blame.  Luckily, the team's race trailer houses a whole lot of spare parts for just this occasion and the gasket was swapped out.

Leaking oil makes a car very dirty.  Here we can see Steve R lending a hand in cleaning it up.

It takes a true enthusiast to spend their vacation getting dirty and sweaty while working on someone else's car.  But this was not a new occurrence.  Whenever the team races, the crew is made up of volunteers who work hard to get the job done.  And sometimes, they also find that the car that they drove to the track becomes a temporary parts car.  That's dedication.

After the car was cleaned up and prepped for the race, it was time.  Here's some video of the start of the race, through turns one and two.  Keep an eye on the black Volvo who ends up sideways before the second turn.

Video requires DIVX 5 codec to play - info/download HERE.  Be sure to turn up your sound.
