The 2006 SPC Rally |
Jeff & Denise P's 2002 SC2 began experiencing some odd transmission behavior, so they decided not to tempt fate by flogging it on the track. After all, it did need to still make it all the way back to Connecticut.
After a trip to the nearest rental car dealer, they were now on the track
with a brand new Dodge Caliber. And with a continuously variable
transmission, the RPMs stayed at 6000 the entire time that the pedal was on
the floor. |
|
The Caliber was a fun and interesting track
vehicle,
and we were proud to have it as the newest member of the "NMC Racing"
(Not My Car Racing) team. You can run
this search to find other events on this site that had rental cars as
participants. SPC standard rental car disclaimer We realize that there are some people reading this
who would think that driving a stock rental car in this manner is dangerous and
irresponsible. In the hands of a driver with some experience and the proper safety
equipment, risk to the vehicle & driver is minimal, and mechanical wear from a day out
on the track does not cause any permanent damage to the vehicle. After all, most of
us use our own own daily-drivers on the track and don't drive them much differently.
Ok, now back to our regularly-scheduled program... |

It was a cloudy day, and a welcome break from the heat that wore us down at the dragstrip the day before. There was some rain early in the morning, and participants had an opportunity to see how their cars performed on a wet track surface during the first session. As the day went on, the track dried off and
it turned into a beautiful day that brought out quite a number of nice cars. |
Kevin K had recently purchased a different car to use as his daily driver so that his purple 95 could live out the remainder of its life as a dedicated track animal. After a tire change and some brake maintenance, Kevin was out on the track flogging it as hard as any track car should ever be. |
Gary H joined us once again, and made the trip from Lexington KY. His Saturn stayed home this time so that his Porsche 968 could come out and play. |

John was driving a brand-new turbocharged Mazdaspeed MX5 like he stole it. Well, it was his wife's car, so that's pretty darn close. |
