The 2005 SPC Rally

Kevin K and Brian S ready to go.  Brian barely got the dealer's sticker off the window of his SC2 before hitting the dragstrip.

Since our events often run a car pretty hard, we occasionally have to deal with mechanical problems.  At the right you can see Doug adding water to his radiator after one of the hose clamps slipped and the car dumped some of its coolant.

The best part about having the track to ourselves is the opportunity to get a huge number of runs in a short amount of time.  A person can literally do laps, and do one after another with no waiting.

Since test & tune night at my local dragstrip usually only allows me to get 3 runs in about 5 hours, I always try to get in as many runs as possible during the rally.  Today I was able to get 22 runs.

Timeslips.  Lots of timeslips.

After we were done with our timed runs, a bracket was held to see who would finish on top.

1st place: Steve R, 2004 Ion Red Line.  Steve's best run during the day was 14.514 seconds.
2nd place: Lane, 1992 SC

Fastest run of the day: Christena S, 1996 SC2 with nitrous oxide.  14.22 @ 98 mph.
Most consistent:
John L (Deebs), 2001 SL2 with an automatic.  The difference from slowest run to fastest was within a few hundredths of a second.

After packing up, the group stopped at a local restaraunt for something to eat, and then got on the road for the drive back to Joliet IL.  After the day in the hot sun (and inside a hot car on the track with all the windows up), we were beat and we were looking forward to a relaxing evening at the hotel.
